You don’t need to be a genius to start investing in stocks and learn the ins and outs of the stock market. As long as you are carefully following the different stocks traded in the stock exchanges and are determined to achieve your goals you will be able to make a nice profit on your portfolio from stock market investing. Once you already have the needed knowledge in stock trading you can start managing your portfolio without hiring a broker, but like many other business ventures there are a number of factors that have to be considered before going ahead and investing.

Stock market investing falls into two categories: long term investments and short-term investments. Long term stock market investing means holding a stock and keeping it in your portfolio for as long as it is holding up in the market and is not susceptible to drastic economic changes. This type of investing mainly focuses on the more popular shares that are traded in the exchanges, especially of companies that are known all over.

One advice that you can keep in mind when planning on long term stock market investing is that you should buy shares from companies whose products are very popular in the market. Established companies with a very solid customer base are more often than not very stable during trading, allowing you to earn dividends on your stocks on a regular basis without worrying about the company going bankrupt anytime soon.

Short term stock market investing on the other hand can be used for volatile stocks or shares that can increase or decrease in value at any given point in the future. People who are into short term stock investing often find new stock that have not been publicly released and follow the progress of the shares until the stock reaches its highest selling price. During this time the investor then sells all his shares, making a nice profit from the sale before finding another type of stock which has the same potential.

If you are looking to make a quick killing and make a huge profit from stocks then short term investments are for you. If on the other hand you want a check sent regularly to your doorstep then it is best that you opt for long term stock market investing to be able to enjoy the benefits of being paid your dividends for a sound investment. Regardless of which you choose both can give you guaranteed gains as long as you play the stock market right.
